Children of Bodom is a Finnish heavy metal band from Espoo, formed in 1993. The band consists of guitarist and vocalist Alexi Laiho (vocals/lead guitar), Roope Latvala (guitar), Janne Wirman (keyboards), Henkka Seppälä (bass), and Jaska Raatikainen (drums). Since their inception, Children of Bodom has released six studio albums, two live albums, two EPs, and one DVD.
Children of Bodom's third studio album, Follow the Reaper, was the band's first album to receive a Gold certification in Finland, and since then, all six of the band's studio albums have reached the same status. In Finland, Children of Bodom has released three consecutive albums that debuted at number one on Finnish album charts, and has also seen chart positions on the United States Billboard 200. Throughout its career, the band has been known to incorporate many different musical styles, leading critics and fans to label them as everything from melodic death metal and black metal to thrash meta and progressive metal.

Children of Bodom - Something Wild (1997)
The album presents a darker and generally more experimental sound than the one present in their later albums, and contributed most to the infamous genre controversy of their classification as a death metal or black metal band at the time (in an interview, Darkthrone's Fenriz was asked on what he felt about "so-called black metal bands like Cradle of Filth and Children of Bodom, to which Fenriz replied that he "hadn't heard CoB", and that he had "no comment" about Cradle of Filth); obviously a lot of black metal was present due to Alexi Laiho's stint in Impaled Nazarene and his self-professed "roots being in black metal".

Hatebreeder is the second studio album by Finnish heavy metal band Children of Bodom. In it, the band explores a classically influenced sound, as well as a dark, black metal atmosphere evidenced by fast, tremolo picked riffs, blast-beats, and Alexi using a more black metal-oriented vocal approach (Alexi had joked that Hatebreeder was "too black metal for heavy metal fans and too heavy metal for black metal fans"). It also carries some influence from power metal, in the fast riffs and complex soloing style. This record contains concert favorites such as "Silent Night, Bodom Night" and "Downfall". The keyboards show more presence on this album, with longer and more elaborate solos than in their previous work. The "Deluxe Edition" was released in 2005 with bonus material. Hatebreeder was also re-released in 2008.

Children of Bodom - Follow the Reaper (2000)
The music continues the musical tradition of the previous album, Hatebreeder, only with a more straight-forward direction. Much of the black metal and symphonic metal elements were present, mainly in the keyboards, vocals, and fast tempos, as well as a stronger emphasis on power metal. Many songs on the album end as live setlist favorites, such as "Everytime I Die", "Hate Me!" and the title track.

Children of Bodom - Hate Crew Deathroll (2003)
Hate Crew Deathroll is the fourth album by Finnish heavy metal band Children of Bodom, released in 2003 under the Century Media label. The album is the final to feature guitarist Alexander Kuoppala. It was successful both in Europe and the USA, after the appearance of the "Needled 24/7" music video on MTV2's Headbangers Ball. "Needled 24/7" also featured on the heavy metal documentary Metal: A Headbanger's Journey.
This showed the band's sound becoming more streamlined and a bit simpler, more power metal and classic metal oriented than on previous albums. The keyboards were a bit more toned down as the guitars took hold as the more predominant instrument.

Children of Bodom - Are You Dead Yet? (2005)
Are You Dead Yet? is the fifth album by Finnish heavy metal band Children of Bodom. The album was released in Finland on September 14, 2005 and internationally on September 19, 2005 under the Century Media label. It is the first Children of Bodom album to feature guitarist Roope Latvala (Stone, Sinergy, ex-Waltari), due to the departure of Alexander Kuoppala. In this album, the band has chosen the dropped C tuning (usually tuned in D tuning), which differs from the "whole step down" tuning previously employed. The power metal influences previously prominent are also greatly reduced in this album.

Children of Bodom - Blooddrunk (2008)
Blooddrunk is the sixth album by Finnish heavy metal band Children of Bodom, released on April 9, 2008 through Spinefarm Records. The album includes a re-recorded version single for "Tie My Rope". Various editions feature one or two cover songs as bonus tracks. The limited edition digipak version of the album includes a bonus DVD with 5.1 surround mixes of all songs and the video and making-of for "Blooddrunk". It sold 20,000 copies during its first week of release. The band recorded a cover of the Suicidal Tendencies song "War Inside My Head" during the recording sessions for this album, but the song was not released on Blooddrunk. The song was released on the cover album Skeletons in the Closet together with two new covers plus some old ones as well. The song Done With Everything, Die For Nothing is a playable song in Guitar Hero 5.

Relentless Reckless Forever is the seventh album by Finnish melodic death metal band Children of Bodom, released on March 8, 2011 through Spinefarm Records / Universal Music. Relentless Reckless Forever was recorded at Finland's Petrax Studios, during August and September 2010. "We worked super hard on this album, at least for me it was pretty much no sleep or rest for six weeks," stated lead vocalist/guitarist Alexi Laiho. "But we were determined to make the best COB album ever, so we were willing to do whatever it took. Of course, having our producer Matt Hyde kicking our asses 24/7 definitely made the results even better, so obviously we're more than anxious to get this album out there.
